About Me

"Books are uniquely portable magic"
~Stephen King

I am Amara Pascuito and I am a full-time Literacy Specialist as well as a full-time student. I have been reading books since I have been able to hold one. Not only do I love to read but I also enjoy writing as well, the other crucial aspect of literacy. If I did not love all aspects of literacy, I would be doing my students a disservice. As teachers, we must practice what we preach. I try to instill my love for literacy within my students. I hope that my passion will be evident in my teaching and my students will use my passion to develop their own love for literacy.

Regardless of what you teach, I believe teachers must always have the mindset that we are forever learners. Our students and colleague's will always have something new to teach us. In order to best serve our students, we must be willing to be forever learners. I love what I do. The biggest stressor of being a teacher is having the fear I am not doing everything I possibly can for my students. I strongly believe that developing a love for literacy will open the door to a successful educational career.

In my spare time, you can often find me outside with my 9 month old dog, Rory. She is very active and I make it a goal to walk her at least twice a day (both for her benefit and mine). If I am not outdoors with my dog, you can find me cooking in the kitchen or cozied up on the couch with my latest book.

On this blog, I will discuss my teaching philosophies when it comes to the world of educational literacy. I will talk about my beliefs and practices I find to be most successful for struggling readers. I will also post about new findings that may change my current beliefs and practices, in order to better benefit my students.
